Holy Cross High School was established in 1849 in the historic Holy Cross neighborhood in the lower 9th ward. It was built as a preparatory college for the young men of New Orleans. It was situated right on the Mississippi River. The school stayed there until Hurricane Katrina devastated the campus. The new high school has now moved to the Gentilly neighborhood in New Orleans. This school has a dedicated alumni who have been a powerful force in its rebuilding. I took this picture of the Holy Cross gazebo on the original campus shortly after Hurricane Katrina had hit.
